THOSE FILM-MAKING DAYS WHEN YOU FEEL DOWN
Film-making,
just like any other passion driven endeavor, is about progress. But the hard part about any passion is when you feel like no progress has been made – for in the moment progress is almost always impossible to see – I often get discouraged, feel worthless, want to quit and get a 9-5 job, or just want to watch other peoples videos that are “better” than mine.
It’s obvious that none of the results are helpful or beneficial (even the watching better video, at least not in that attitude).
So what can be done?
LEARN.
I have come to realize for me when I feel down, I need to learn something new. I need to do something with the purpose of learning. Scripture study, bonus features, productive conversations, or inspiring blog posts have rescued me from the creative doldrums many a time. The key is to go into these things with the mindset of learning something.
Our brains love discovery and when something evokes that emotion of discovery, everything else seems to brighten up.
Something to help.
So in the theme of discovery I wanted to share a blog post that I read some months back that inspired and pushed me to new limits. If you are in one of the those passion driven slumps, I hope this finds a place in your heart, but hopefully more so in your mind:
HOW MANY DAYS HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN?
